PITTSBURGH (AP) - WIDE RECEIVER JOEY GALLOWAY HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS' ROSTER AS THE REPLACEMENT FOR LIMAS SWEED. SWEED WAS PLACED ON INJURED RESERVE THIS WEEK WITH A NON-FOOTBALL RELATED ILLNESS. COACH MIKE TOMLIN WOULD NOT REVEAL ANY DETAILS OF SWEED'S PROBLEM YESTERDAY. GALLOWAY WAS CUT BY NEW ENGLAND EARLIER

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The streaking New Jersey Devils beat the
Pittsburgh Penguins, as Martin Brodeur broke the NHL record with
his 104th career shutout. Maybe the only surprise was how easily
the victory came against the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh
Penguins. Brodeur needed to make only a few difficult saves while
breaking Terry Sawchuk's shutout record.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Nathan Horton, Stephen Weiss and Michael
Frolik all scored power-play goals to lead the Florida Panthers
past the punchless Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 last night. The Flyers
have lost 14 of their last 17 games and only Carolina has fewer
points in the NHL. Expected to contend for the Stanley Cup,
Philadelphia has lost its scoring touch.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Denver Broncos play the Philadelphia
Eagles this Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, marking the return
of seven-time Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins, who spent 13 seasons
with the Eagles before signing with Denver. At the same time,
Philadelphia's dynamic offense may see the return of another Eagles
icon: Running back Brian Westbrook.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers say wide receiver
Limas Sweed and long snapper Greg Warren will miss the rest of the
season. Sweed, a former second-round draft pick, is on the reserve
non-football illness list. Warren has been placed on the
reserve/injured list. He injured his right knee after tearing his
anterior cruciate ligament on the final play of Sunday's game
against Green Bay.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Talor Battle scored 16 points as Penn
State won for the third time in four games, beating American 76-57
last night. The Nittany Lions made 12 of their first 15 shots of
the second half and finished at 54.9 percent from the field. Chris
Babb scored 13 points and Bill Edwards had 12 for Penn State.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jordan Staal scored twice and Sidney Crosby's
goal and assist early in the first period amid a succession of
fights lifted the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-1 victory over the
Philadelphia Flyers last night. Crosby had a three-point night and
now has 21 goals and 28 assists in 28 career games against
Philadelphia.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Former Carolina Hurricanes goaltender
Michael Leighton has been claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia
Flyers. The move brings Leighton back to Philadelphia, where he
went 2-2 in four games in 2006-07, and reunites him with new Flyers
coach Peter Laviolette, who was with the Hurricanes when they
acquired Leighton in 2007.

NEW YORK (AP) - The blockbuster trade sending Roy Halladay to
Philadelphia and Cliff Lee to Seattle could be completed Wednesday,
and it's become a four-team swap that involves Toronto shipping a
prospect to Oakland. Halladay would receive a $60 million,
three-year contract extension through 2013 with the Phillies, a
deal that would include a 2014 option.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Utilityman Ross Gload and the Philadelphia
Phillies have finalized their $2.6 million, two-year contract, a
deal agreed to at the winter meetings last week. The 33-year-old
hit .261 with six homers and 30 RBIs for the Florida Marlins last
season. He appeared in 41 games at first base, 10 in right field
and one in left.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is still
trying to explain the team's 6-7 record. The Steelers are 1-7 in
games decided by seven points or fewer. A season ago, they were 7-2
in such games, counting the Super Bowl, and that statistic alone
explains the Steelers' dim playoff prospects.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Juan Fernandez hit seven 3-pointers and
scored a career-high 33 points and Ryan Brooks added 20 points in
Temple's 75-65 victory over No. 3 Villanova. Temple fans bellowed
"Overrated!" moments before they stormed the court in their
biggest win in coach Fran Dunphy's four seasons.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Samme Givens had a career-high 24 points and
16 rebounds as Drexel routed St. Francis (Pa.) 57-35. In his first

IT WAS A BANNER NIGHT FOR PHILADELPHIA EAGLES RECEIVER DESEAN JACKSON, WHO TIED AN NFL RECORD FOR LONG TOUCHDOWNS AND CARRIED THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES TO THE TOP OF THE NFC EAST, DEFEATING THE GIANTS AT THE MEADOWLANDS 45-38. JACKSON SCORED ON A 72-YARD PUNT RETURN AND THIS 60-YARD PASS FROM DONOVAN MCNABB.

JACKSON TD PASS

PHILADELPHIA'S BRIAN WESTBROOK MISSED HIS FOURTH STRAIGHT GAME.

THE PHILADELPHIA FLYERS AND BOSTON BRUINS ARE TAKING THEIR FIRST LOOK AT FENWAY PARK - HOCKEY-STYLE - BEFORE THE CLUBS MEET IN THE NHL'S WINTER CLASSIC. PLAYERS AND PERSONNEL FROM BOTH TEAMS WERE GIVEN A TOUR YESTERDAY OF THE UNCOMPLETED RINK, THE LOCKER ROOM AND OTHER FACILITIES.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - VILLANOVA'S THIRD-RANKED BASKETBALL TEAM IS UNDEFEATED NO MORE. JUAN FERNANDEZ HIT SEVEN THREE-POINTERS AND
SCORED A CAREER-HIGH 33 IN TEMPLE'S 75-65 UPSET OVER THE WILDCATS.
THAT LEFT TEMPLE FANS BELLOWING, "OVERRATED" AS THEY STORMED THE

THE ARIZONA CARDINALS AND THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS LACE IT UP TONIGHT IN THE MONDAY NIGHT CONTEST. THE TWO TEAMS HAD MET EARLY IN THE SEASON, WITH THE NINERS SOUNDLY DEFEATING THE CARDS.
