WPPA/T102 Sports-Tuesday, Dec. 26th

MIAMI (AP) - The New York Jets have only to beat the 2-and-13 Oakland Raiders next Sunday to qualify for the N-F-L playoffs. The Jets helped their postseason hopes immensely by beating the Miami Dolphins 13-to-10 on Mike Nugent's 30-yard field goal with ten seconds left.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles are continuing their late-season run behind backup quarterback Jeff Garcia. The Eagles secured at least a wild-card playoff berth by beating Dallas 23-to-7 and can win the N-F-C East outright with a win over Atlanta next Sunday.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - The New Orleans Saints were big winners in the N-F-L yesterday even without taking a snap. By virtue of the Dallas Cowboys' loss, the Saints clinched number-two seed in the N-F-C and also earned a first-round bye in the playoffs.

NEW YORK (AP) - Randy Johnson's stay with the New York Yankees could be over after two seasons. The Yankees are shopping the 43-year-old left-hander, who has a no-trade clause, which means the ten-time All-Star would have to approve any deal.

MIAMI (AP) - The N-B-A had only one game on its schedule yesterday and Dwyane (dwayn) Wade made the most of it. The Miami guard had 40 points, eleven assists, four blocks and four steals in a 101-to-85 win over the L-A Lakers.
