CLEVELAND (AP) - Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Pat Burrellaccounted for eight R-B-Is in Philadelphia's 9-to-6 victory atCleveland. Howard drove in four runs with an R-B-I single, a solohomer and a two-run double. The series at Cleveland wraps uptonight.

SEATTLE (AP) - Tom Gorzelanny scattered eight hits over seven innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates downed the Mariners 5-to-3 in Seattle. Freddy Sanchez had two hits, including an R-B-I double that put the Pirates ahead 3-to-1 in the fifth. The Pirates play at Seattle again tonight.

SEATTLE (AP) - Ian Snell missed his scheduled start against the Seattle Mariners last night because of an injury preparing a grilled chicken salad last week. Snell will start Saturday at the Los Angeles Angels instead.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Flyers have been without a captain sincetrading Peter Forsberg. Kimmo Timonen was Nashville's captainbefore this week's trade, but he hasn't really considered wearingthe "C" with the Flyers. He says he needs to get to know the teamfirst.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Joe Paterno doesn't sound very optimistic about the prospects of the Pitt-Penn State football series reconvening any time soon. Paterno says the economic realities in an era of 12-game football seasons hurt the chances of the in-state rivals playing again.

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) - Top-ranked Roger Federer and Justine Henin are the top seeds for Wimbledon, which gets under way Monday. Last year's runner-up, Rafael Nadal, is
number two in the men's draw ahead of American Andy Roddick, while Maria Sharapova is seeded second in the women's draw.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Former Indiana Pacer Stephen Jackson will be in court today and is expected to admit to criminal recklessness in firing a gun outside an Indianapolis strip club last October. According to a plea agreement outlined by the prosecutor, the Golden State Warriors swingman will pay a five-thousand-dollar fine and be required to perform 100 hours of community service.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Former Sacramento Kings player Reggie Theus is returning to the team as its new coach. He spent the past two years transforming New Mexico State's basketball
program into an N-C-A-A tournament club, posting a 25-and-9 record last season.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - North Carolina kept its title hopes alive with a 3-to-1 victory over Louisville in an elimination game at the College World Series. And U-C Irvine knocked out Arizona State 8-to-7 in ten innings.

UNDATED (AP) - There are four afternoon games on today's major league schedule. Interleague play gets started in Chicago, with the White Sox hoisting Florida, followed by Cincinnati at Oakland and Tampa Bay at Arizona. A National League matinee in Milwaukee has
the Brewers facing the slumping San Francisco Giants.
