Today's Game
Holiday Bowl
At San Diego
Arizona State (10-2) vs. Texas (9-3), 8 p.m.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh is already assured of a division
title and at least one home playoff game. All the Steelers can gain
by beating Baltimore is a higher seeding in the AFC playoffs. Yet
players say they're going into this game as if it were like any
other.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Eagles president Joe Banner said earlier
this month he expected Donovan McNabb to be the starting
quarterback next year. Then McNabb started playing like his old
self. That makes it nearly certain the Eagles will bring him back
for another season.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Andre Iguodala (ih-goh-DAH'-lah) scored a
season-high 28 points and the Philadelphia 76ers held off the Miami
Heat 96-85. Kyle Korver and Lou Williams added 13 apiece for
Philly. The Sixers play tomorrow (Friday) night at Sacramento.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The odds at one time seemed stacked against
tailback Rodney Kinlaw to make a difference at Penn State. Yet he
became one of the offense's most valuable players after rushing for
1,186 yards. Penn State plays Texas A&M in the Alamo Bowl on
Saturday.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Temple football coach Al Golden has
withdrawn from consideration for the opening at UCLA and will
remain with the Owls. Golden is 5-19 in his first two years at
Temple. He interviewed twice for the job after the Bruins fired
Karl Dorrell.

NEW YORK (AP) - One key senator says it's a good move on the
NFL's part to move Saturday night's Patriots-Giants game to CBS and
NBC in addition to NFL Network, which is available to less than 40
percent of U.S. households with televisions. Sen. Patrick Leahy
(LAY'-hee), D-Vt., who heads the Senate Judiciary Committee, had
been pressuring the league to allow more people to see the game.

DETROIT (AP) - If offense and high-scoring college football
games are your thing, you had to like the Motor City Bowl last
night. Chris Summers kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired to
lift Purdue to a 51-48 win over Central Michigan in a game in which
Boilermakers QB Curtis Painter threw for a school-record 546 yards
and three touchdowns.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - After missing the entire 2007 season following
arm surgery in April, Mark Prior has a new deal. Prior has agreed
to a one-year deal worth 1 million dollars with the San Diego
Padres.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Eddie Sutton is coming out of retirement to
replace Jessie Evans, who is taking a leave of absence as San
Francisco's basketball coach. Sutton retired as Oklahoma State's
coach after the 2005-06 season and has 798 victories in 36 seasons
as a Division I coach and will coach the Dons for at least the rest
of this season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - After a break for the holidays, the
top-25 men's basketball schedule resumes tonight with one game.
Top-ranked North Carolina takes on the Nevada Wolf Pack at the Dean
Dome in Chapel Hill.
