DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks played the eighth-longest playoff hockey game in the NHL last night. Brenden Morrow scored just 9:03 into the fourth overtime to give Dallas a 2-1 win over San Jose. The victory sends the Stars into the NHL Western Conference final against Detroit.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - For the first time, the NHL Eastern Conference finals will be an all-Pennsylvania affair. The Pittsburgh Penguins eliminated the New York Rangers in five games with a 3-2 overtime win yesterday and will play the Philadelphia Flyers. They eliminated Montreal Saturday night in five games.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The L.A. Lakers began the second round of the NBA playoffs in the same fashion they swept Denver in the first round. Kobe Bryant had 38 points, six rebounds and seven assists and the L.A. Lakers made it five straight playoff wins by beating the Utah Jazz 109-98 in the opener of their Western Conference semifinal series.
LAKEWAY, Texas (AP) - Denis Watson birdied the final hole to win the FedEx Kinko's Classic after taking advantage of Nick Price's back-nine errors. Price, who is still winless on the Champions Tour, had a four-shot lead on the back nine but made double bogey on 15 and 16 to fall into a tie for second.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Anthony Kim is celebrating his first victory on the PGA Tour, a commanding five-shot win over Ben Curtis in the Wachovia Championship. The 22-year-old Kim is the youngest player ever to win a PGA Tour event.
