PITTSBURGH (AP) - Adrian Gonzalez homered to help the San Diego

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed their first-round draft pick, running back Rashard Mendenhall, to a five-year contract. Mendenhall's signing means only the team's second-round pick Limas Sweed has yet to sign with the team. Sweed
is a rangy wide-receiver out of Texas.
UNDATED (AP) - Joba (JAH'-bah) Chamberlain dominated the Boston
Red Sox with his best major-league start and the surging New York

victory to improve to 7-and-0 since the All-Star break. Coupled

three back.

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (AP) - Devin Hester showed up at the Chicago Bears' training camp without a new contract but whether the kick-return star will practice without one remains to be seen. Bears coach Lovie Smith says he held Hester out of yesterday's

HERNDON, Va. (AP) - A company in Virginia says it's come up with a urine test that can detect human growth hormone. One anti-doping expert says a test that can find HGH in urine "could be a quantum leap forward" in the fight against drug use in sports.
