Bill Elliott is replacing Jeremy Mayfieldin the number-19 Dodge at Watkins Glen this weekend, furtheringspeculation that Mayfield is on his way out at EvernhamMotorsports. Mayfield is a NASCAR veteran with 21 road course starts underhis belt. But the team has fallen out of the top 35 in points -- the markthat guarantees a spot in the field -- and Mayfield has beenincreasingly frustrated about their performance. A participant inthe Chase for the championship the last two seasons, he's currently36th in the standings and said Saturday at Indianapolis MotorSpeedway he doubted he would be back with Evernham next season. Evernham says Elliott is the better choice this week because asa past NASCAR champion, he is assured a spot in the field.
