Mt Carmel Hires Chesney as Head Coach

A veteran high school football coach has a new job today…head coach of the Mt Carmel Red Tornadoes. Bob Chesney, who’s coaching resume spans more than two decades, has been named to replace Mike Brennan, who resigned in January to take over the football program at Blue Mountain. Chesney served as an assistant to Brennan for the past two seasons. He was also head coach at Shamokin, Lourdes Regional and North Schuylkill, and has collegiate coaching experience as well. He was appointed by the Mount Carmel school board last night.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - If there was anything that could go wrong on the Pirates' pitching staff last season, it generally did. The Pirates' pitchers and catchers are reporting for spring training in Bradenton, Fla., with a new pitching coach.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Dionte Christmas scored 19 points and Temple held off a late run by Saint Joseph's, beating its longtime rival 61-59 in another city series thriller. Saint Joseph's plays at La Salle on Saturday. Temple plays at Duquesne on Sunday.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Sam Young's college basketball career is dwindling down to a few precious games. The senior wants most of all to make it in March, when Pitt has repeatedly failed despite
being a Top 25 fixture for eight seasons.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Dany Heatley, Jason Spezza, and Daniel Alfreddson each had a goal and assist, to help the Ottawa Senators win their third straight game, 5-2 over Philadelphia. Darroll Powe and Mike Richards scored for the Flyers, who host the Islanders on Saturday.
