WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Thursday

NEW YORK (AP) - Kentucky's much-hyped freshman John Wall lived
up to his billing in his first appearance in Madison Square Garden
last night. Wall poured in a season-high 25 points and scored 12 of
Kentucky's final 15 points in the fourth-ranked Wildcats' 64-61 win
over 14th-ranked Connecticut to run the Wildcats' early season
record to 9-and-0.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Today is the final day of the baseball
winter meetings and pitchers were the hot commodity yesterday.
Milwaukee landed hurlers Randy Wolf and LaTroy Hawkins, Baltimore
acquired Kevin Millwood from cash-starved Texas, Houston acquired
hard-throwing reliever Matt Lindstrom from Florida and the World
Series champion Yankees announced that postseason star, 37-year-old
Andy Pettitte, is coming back after agreeing to a one-year deal
worth $11.75 million.

HOUSTON (AP) - Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh
(ehn-DAHM'-uh-kehn soo) has won the Rotary Lombardi Award as the
nation's top lineman. Suh also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy this
week as the nation's top defensive player. He's a finalist for the
Heisman Trophy.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Andy Reid calls himself just "a piece of
the puzzle" in Philadelphia but Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie
believes he's more than that. Lurie and Reid, the winningest coach
in Eagles history, have agreed on a three-year contract extension
that keeps Reid atop the Eagles' perch through 2013.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - On NHL ice, the Washington Capitals'
six-game winning streak is over. Buffalo blanked the league-leading
Capitals 3-0 last night as Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller turned
back 35 shots for his 16th career shutout.
