WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Monday

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Baltimore's Joe Flacco withstood Pittsburgh's
goal-line stand and go-ahead touchdown in the closing minutes to
throw an 18-yard scoring pass to T.J. Houshmandzadeh with 32
seconds remaining to knock off the Steelers 17-14. The Steelers
appeared to have the game locked up after turning away the Ravens
at the 2-yard-line with just over 2 minutes left.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Donovan McNabb made enough plays to help the
Washington Redskins beat the Eagles 17-12 Sunday in the
quarterback's return to Philadelphia. Kevin Kolb, originally
scheduled to be McNabb's successor, played most of the game after
starter Michael Vick hurt his ribs and chest.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will have an
MRI today on his injured ribs and chest. Vick scrambled 23 yards,
but was sandwiched on a hard hit by a pair of Redskins and was slow
to get up late in the first quarter of yesterday's loss to
Washington.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Donovan McNabb drew a standing ovation from
the Philadelphia fans after being introduced before yesterday's
game. Nearly everyone in the stadium stood and cheered the
Redskins' new quarterback as he returned to his former home field.
McNabb hugged his successor, Michael Vick, near the 40-yard line,
and he raised his right arm to salute the folks in the stands.

ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Braves are in the playoffs as the NL
wild-card team after edging the Phillies 8-7 yesterday in the final
game of the regular season. After beating the Phillies, the Braves
watched on TV in their clubhouse as San Francisco beat San Diego
3-0, giving the Braves the NL wild card by one game over San Diego.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies will open the postseason
Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds in the National League
Division Series. Atlanta heads to San Francisco Thursday to take on
the Giants in the other division series.

MIAMI (AP) - Florida's Dan Uggla homered and drove in three runs
Sunday, sending the Pittsburgh Pirates to their 105th and final
defeat when they lost to the Florida Marlins 5-2. The Pirates
finished their record-extending 18th consecutive losing season at
57-105, worst in the majors. The only time the Pirates had more
defeats in baseball's modern era was in 1952, when they went
42-112.

DETROIT (AP) - Mike Comrie scored twice and Evgeni Malkin had a
goal and three assists in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 5-2 win over the
Detroit Red Wings yesterday in the final exhibition game for each
team. Chris Kunitz and Alex Goligoski each added a goal and an
assist for Pittsburgh, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 22 saves.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Sabres scored eight straight
times to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 9-3 in an exhibition game
yesterday. The nine goals were the most scored by one team during
the preseason. Philadelphia's Mike Testwuide finally snapped the
streak with a goal 49 seconds into the third period.
