WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Tuesday

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) - Michael Vick and the Eagles embarrassed the
Washington Redskins, spoiling Donovan McNabb's big contract day
with a 59-28 victory last night. Vick completed his first 10 passes
and finished 20 for 28 for 333 yards with four touchdowns. He also
ran eight times for 80 yards and two scores. The win moved
Philadelphia into a first-place tie with the Giants in the NFC
East.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Rangers' Ryan Callahan scored 3:38 into
overtime and the Rangers beat the Penguins 3-2 with 2 goals in the
final 5:04 last night in Pittsburgh. The Penguins' Chris Kunitz and
Matt Cooke scored 38 seconds apart in the final 2:31 of regulation
before New York tied it 27 seconds later.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia's Mike Richards scored two
goals for the second straight game to lead the surging Flyers to a
5-1 win over the Senators last night. Flyers goalie Sergei
Bobrovsky stopped 28 shots. Danny Briere, Darroll Powe and Claude
Giroux also scored for the Flyers, who are 9-0-1 in their past 10
games.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Clint Hurdle has been hired as the Pittsburgh
Pirates' manager, saying he's not intimidated by the franchise's
record 18 consecutive losing seasons. Hurdle replaces John Russell,
who was fired the day after completing a 105-loss season - the
Pirates' worst in 58 years. Hurdle had been the hitting coach for
the AL champion Texas Rangers.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies have re-signed right-hander
Jose Contreras to a $5.5 million, two-year contract with a club
option for 2013. The 38-year-old Contreras was a key member in the
bullpen for the four-time NL East champion Phillies in his first
season as a full-time reliever.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg is returning to
the Phillies organization to manage their Triple-A affiliate, the
Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Sandberg spent the last four seasons as a
manager in the Chicago Cubs' minor league system. Sandberg was a
10-time All-Star and won nine Gold Gloves during his 16-year career
with the Cubs and Phillies.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pitt defensive end Greg Romeus will miss the
rest of his senior season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in
his right knee, the second major injury he has had this season.
Romeus was hurt while rushing the quarterback during Pitt's 30-28
loss to Connecticut on Thursday.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The West Virginia-Pitt game will start at noon
on Friday, November 26th and will be televised by ABC. The kickoff
time was not announced until it was determined whether ABC or ESPN
would show the Backyard Brawl rivalry game. Pitt leads the Big East
going into Saturday's game at South Florida, despite losing
Thursday at Connecticut.
