PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Andre Iguodala scored 20 points and Lou Williams added 13 to help the Philadelphia 76ers win their fifth straight game, 96-86, over the Indiana Pacers last night. Led by Iguodala and a deep roster, the Sixers are dominating in the second half to turn close games into comfortable ones.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are still reeling from their stunning overtime loss to Denver on Sunday night. Coach Mike Tomlin acknowledges there can only be one winner this year, and it's not them. Pittsburgh lost 29-23 on Tim Tebow's 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas on the first play of the extra period.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The National Football League and former players want a number of concussion-related lawsuits to be heard in Philadelphia. The parties want to consolidate the suits filed across the country by former players who say they've suffered concussion-related brain injuries. A hearing on the issue will be held later this month in Miami.
LONDON, Ontario (AP) — A hockey fan has been fined $200 for tossing a banana at a black player during an NHL exhibition game. Christopher Moorhouse threw a banana at Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds as he was approaching Detroit Red Wings goalie Jordan Pearce during a shootout in the September game in London, Ontario.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh is hoping for better days ahead after a dismal season. The Panthers fell to SMU 28-6 in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Saturday to cap a 6-7 season in which the play on the field was overshadowed by the drama off it. Pitt announced in September it was leaving the Big East to join the ACC by 2014. The big jolt, however, came in mid-December when first-year coach Todd Graham announced he was taking the head coaching job at Arizona State.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Sue Paterno says she and husband Joe Paterno gave $100,000 last month to Penn State, split between a library and an undergraduate fellows program that bear the family name. Sue Paterno says it was an annual gift to the Paterno Liberal Arts Undergraduate Fellows Program and the Paterno Library.
