PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia 76ers season is over. The
Orlando Magic advanced to the second round of the Eastern
Conference playoffs, beating the Sixers 114-89 in Game 6 last
night. And the Magic handled the Sixers without suspended star
Dwight Howard and injured guard Courtney Lee.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Orlando forward Hedo Turkoglu wasn't around
to watch his team finish off the Philadelphia 76ers last night.
Officials ejected him Game 6 because of a brief fourth-quarter
skirmish with 76ers center Samuel Dalembert. Turkoglu finishe with
12 points.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - There probably won't be much drama when the
Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers begin their lone mandatory
offseason practices today. Tomlin's biggest challenge now isn't
winning his players over. It's winning another Super Bowl.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia-based Comcast Corporation won't
pull the plug on the NFL Network just yet. Negotiations will
continue even after the contract expires. Comcast and the league
are in a court battle over Comcast's decision to put the NFL-owned
channel in a premium sports tier rather than in a lesser-priced
package.
NEW YORK (AP) - Joe Paterno felt like he was in charge again
this spring. Penn State's 82-year-old coach was back on the field
with his surgically replaced hip, more mobile, more energetic and
more patient, free of the pain that had dogged him for two years.
Paterno spoke to reporters while attending a New York fundraiser
yesterday.
