WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Thursday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Lou Williams' layup with 3.1 seconds
remaining lifted the Philadelphia 76ers to a come-from-behind 86-84
victory over the Charlotte Bobcats last night. Andre Iguodala lead
the 76ers with 25 points, but it was Elton Brand's 19 points and 11
rebounds that helped seal the win for Philadelphia.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Mika Pyorala scored his first NHL goal,
backup goalie Brian Boucher made 37 saves and the Philadelphia
Flyers opened a road trip with their seventh victory in eight
games, 3-2 over the Los Angeles Kings last night. Mike Richards and
James van Riemsdyk also scored and Braydon Coburn had two assists
for the Flyers.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Doctors say Philadelphia Eagles running back
Brian Westbrook has improved significantly over the last three days
following a second concussion in a three-week span. Westbrook was
evaluated yesterday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
with a battery of neuro-cognitive tests. So far the word is that he
had favorable results.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ben Roethlisberger felt out of sync all day in
the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense. Santonio Holmes apparently
didn't. Holmes disputes the quarterback's notion that the Steelers
had "something missing" during their 18-12 loss to Cincinnati
that moved the Bengals ahead of the Steelers in the AFC North race.

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) - Sidney Crosby lifted the Stanley Cup
in June, and now he is carrying the Olympic torch at home in Nova
Scotia. Hundreds of people lined a street in Halifax to watch the
captain of the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins with the
flame. Crosby ran about 300 yards before passing the torch to
snowboarder Sarah Conrad.
