BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - At just 23 years old, Andrew McCutchenalready is emerging a Pittsburgh Pirates team leader. A first-rounddraft pick in 2005, McCutchen for years was the lone bright spot inthe Pirates' minor league system. He nearly made the team in 2007,but former general manager Dave Littlefield chose to give him moretime to develop.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Rick Jackson scored 19 points and ArinzeOnuaku had 17 as Number 4 Syracuse routed Number 7 Villanova 95-77last night. The game at Syracuse drew a crowd of 34,616, a recordfor an NCAA on-campus game. With the win, Syracuse improved to 7-0against ranked teams and clinched at least a tie for the Big Easttitle.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Talor Battle had 16 points and sixassists as Penn State beat Northwestern 79-60 yesterday. JeffBrooks added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Nittany Lions.Michael Thompson led with 21 points for Northwestern, whose fainthopes for a bid to the NCAA tournament were all but extinguishedafter a second loss this season to the conference's last-placeteam.
