SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Cody Ross came through with another key hit
this postseason, Matt Cain dazzled to outduel Cole Hamels and the
Giants beat the Phillies 3-0 on Tuesday to take a 2-1 lead in the
NL championship series. Game 4 is tonight, with Madison Bumgarner
starting for the Giants against Joe Blanton.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers linebacker James Harrison has been
fined $75,000 by the NFL for his helmet-leading hit that caused
Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi to receive a concussion.
Harrison was not suspended. The fine came as the league announced
it would begin suspending players for dangerous and flagrant hits.
Harrison was not penalized on the play.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel will sit
out Sunday's game at Miami with a left hamstring injury. Keisel was
injured during the first quarter of the Steelers' 28-10 victory
against Cleveland on Sunday and did not return. Coach Mike Tomlin
says either Nick Eason or former first-round draft pick Ziggy Hood
will replace Keisel.
CINCINNATI (AP) - J.J. Hickson led a balanced Cleveland scoring
attack with 22 points and added 11 rebounds as the Cavaliers
cruised to a 111-95 preseason victory over the 76ers last night.
Andre Iguodala led Philadelphia with 19 points. Rookie Evan Turner
scored four points in his first game back in the state where he was
last year's consensus player of the year at Ohio State.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Flyers' defenseman Matt Walker needs hip
surgery and is expected to miss more than two months. General
manager Paul Holmgren says Walker needs surgery to repair a torn
labrum and what he called a "boney impingement" in his right hip.
Walker is expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks.
CANONSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Penguins forward Jordan Staal is
practicing with the team for the first time since May. Staal was
unable to work out all summer because of recurring infections in
his right foot that developed after a tendon was severed during a
second-round playoff game against Montreal.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State defensive end Sean Stanley
has been charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. University
police say the 19-year-old sophomore was charged Monday with having
a small amount of marijuana stemming from a police call to his
on-campus apartment in late September. He has been held out of the
past two games.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State may get three injured
linebackers back for this week's game against Minnesota. Coach Joe
Paterno says that Gerald Hodges, Michael Mauti and Bani Gbadyu have
returned to practice and should be ready Saturday as the Nittany
Lions try to end a two-game losing skid.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pitt players and staff, saddened by the news
