MONTREAL (AP) - The Flyers have lost for the first time in 11
games following last night's 3-0 setback to the Canadiens last
night. Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves for Philadelphia, which lost
in regulation for the first time in three weeks. The Flyers had
gone 9-0-1 since a 2-1 loss in Columbus on October 25th.
CLEVELAND (AP) - The 76ers lost 101-93 last night to Cleveland.
It was Philadelphia's fourth setback in a row. They played without
swingman Andre Iguodala. Thaddeus Young scored 17 and rookie Evan
Turner 16 to pace the Sixers. Iguodala sat out with a troublesome
Achilles' tendon.
NEW YORK (AP) - Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies has
unanimously won the NL Cy Young Award, making him the fifth pitcher
to earn the honor in both leagues. Halladay pitched a perfect game
in May and then threw a no-hitter in the playoffs. In his first
season with the Phillies, he led the NL with 21 wins and topped the
majors in innings, shutouts and complete games.
NEW YORK (AP) - The NFL is looking into Eagles center Mike
McGlynn's accusation that Redskins safety LaRon Landry spit at him.
After Philadelphia's 59-28 victory at Washington on Monday night,
McGlynn said Landry spit at him twice during extra points.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Steelers have cut Jeff Reed, who began the
season as one of the 10 most accurate kickers in NFL history but
has been erratic all season. Reed will be replaced by former
Redskins and Cowboys kicker Shaun Suisham. He was worked out by the
Steelers on yesterday at Heinz Field, where Reed missed a 26-yarder
against the Patriots on Sunday.
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - Former NBA All-Star Allen Iverson has
scored 15 points in his debut for Besiktas Cola Turka but failed to
carry his team to victory against Hemofarm Stada. Hemofarm Stada
defeated Besiktas 94-91 in a European Cup game on Tuesday in
Istanbul. Turkish fans shouted "Allen Iverson, the son of Besiktas
Cola Turka" during the match.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State is sticking with Matt
McGloin at quarterback for Saturday's game against Indiana. McGloin
had two interceptions returned for touchdowns in the second half of
last week's 24-point loss at Number 8 Ohio State, but coach Joe
Paterno says he played well overall, especially for a redshirt
sophomore.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Vince Davidson rushed for two touchdowns and
Ohio fended off a late charge to beat Temple 31-23 last night for
its seventh straight win. The Bobcats moved one step closer to the
league's Eastern Division Championship.
VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Maalik Wayns scored 17 points and Dominic
Cheek had 15 to lead Number 6 Villanova to an 84-47 victory over
Marist last night in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Villanova had an easy
time against the overmatched Red Foxes, who were 1-29 last season.
The Wildcats have won 39 straight games at The Pavilion.
KENT, Ohio (AP) - Kent State got off to a slow start before
rallying for a 62-59 win over Robert Morris in an early game for
ESPN's Tip-Off marathon. Justin Greene led Kent State with 20
points, helping the Golden Flashes erase a 12-point halftime
deficit. He added 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the
season.
