PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Penguins have been knocked out of the
Stanley Cup playoffs after a 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tampa's Dwayne Roloson made 36 saves for his second NHL playoff
shutout. The Penguins lost their second consecutive Game 7 and fell
to 2-6 in such deciding games at home.
MIAMI (AP) - The 76ers are headed home after being eliminated
from the NBA playoffs with a 97-91 loss to the Heat in Miami last
night. Dwyane Wade scored 26 points and Chris Bosh added 22 for
Miami. Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand each scored 22 points for
Philadelphia.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - James McDonald pitched six sharp innings
Wednesday night for his first victory of the season, and the
Pirates beat the Giants 2-0. McDonald allowed four hits and four
walks while striking out three. He lowered his ERA to 7.66 from
10.13.
PHOENIX (AP) - Jimmy Rollins homered and had three RBIs, Cole
Hamels pitched seven solid innings and the Phillies avoided a
three-game sweep with an 8-4 win over the Diamondbacks yesterday.
Shane Victorino and Ryan Howard each homered, Placido Polanco had
four of Philadelphia's 12 hits and scored three runs, and Ben
Francisco had a two-run double.
PHOENIX (AP) - Phillies ace Roy Oswalt has left the team for
Mississippi, where tornadoes have caused deaths and widespread
damage near his home. The team said Oswalt went back to make sure
his wife and daughter were safe and that there wasn't any
significant damage to his home. His parents' home was destroyed by
a tornado a year ago.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Flyers will take on the Bruins in the
second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs starting this weekend in
Philadelphia. The Bruins advanced by beating the Canadiens 4-3 in
Game 7 of their opening round season last night. This is the second
straight season the teams will meet in the conference semifinals.
Last year, the Bruins lost four straight to the Flyers after being
ahead 3-0 in the series.
