WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Monday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - John Jay knocked Carlos Ruiz backward with a
hard forearm shiver, and then the St. Louis Cardinals flipped this
series around. Albert Pujols hit a go-ahead single in the seventh
inning after Cliff Lee blew a four-run lead, and the Cardinals
rallied past the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 last night to even their
NL playoff matchup at one game each.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Frank Gore's 12-yard run capped a
second-half comeback, lifting the San Francisco 49ers past the
Philadelphia Eagles 24-23 yesterday. The 49ers were unable to slow
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. They did victimize Philadelphia's
porous defense throughout the second half, however. The Eagles were
damaged by the kicking game, too.

HOUSTON (AP) - Arian Foster rushed for 155 yards and the
go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter and the Houston Texans
overcame an injury to All-Pro Andre Johnson to beat the Pittsburgh
Steelers 17-10 yesterday. Johnson left in the second quarter with a
right hamstring injury and did not return to the game.

HOUSTON (AP) - Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has an
injured left foot and was wearing a walking boot when he left the
stadium after yesterday's 17-10 loss to the Houston Texans.
Roethlisberger says he was injured on the second-to-last series
when he was tackled from behind. He remained in the game but had
trouble walking afterward in the locker room.

DETROIT (AP) - Gustav Nyquist had two goals and an assist, and
the Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 yesterday in
the final preseason game for both teams. Paul Martin and Tyler
Kennedy scored and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 15 shots for the
Penguins.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Juan Pablo Angel's goal in the 90th minute
lifted Chivas USA to a 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union
yesterday. The Union moved into second place in the Eastern
Conference while Chivas USA got to four points behind the New York
Red Bulls for the final playoff berth.

MOHNTON, Pa. (AP) - Rain forced NHRA officials to postpone the
final eliminations yesterday in the NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove
Raceway until today. In Top Fuel, the Al-Anabi Racing duo of Del
Worsham and Larry Dixon were still in contention for the victory.
