EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Eli Manning tossed a pair of TD
passes and linebacker Michael Boley scored on a 65-yard fumble
return to lead the New York Giants to a 28-16 victory over the St.
Louis Rams for their first win of the season. That gave Giants
coach Tom Coughlin (KAWF'-lihn) a win over Steve Spagnuolo
(spag-NOH'-loh) in their first matchup since the one-time Giants
defensive coordinator left to take over as coach of the winless
Rams.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Peyton Manning made it out to practice
yesterday, but he's still nowhere close to throwing a football. The
four-time MVP was in good spirits when he made his first public
appearance on the field since having neck surgery Sept. 8. Manning
didn't participate in the practice.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Michael Vick's status for the Eagles' next
game is uncertain because of a concussion sustained in Sunday
night's 35-31 loss at Atlanta. The veteran quarterback must pass
several tests and be evaluated by an independent neurologist before
he can be cleared to return. If he can't, Mike Kafka or Vince Young
gets the nod.
UNDATED (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals gained a game in the NL
wild card race and now trail Atlanta by 2-1/2 games. The Cards held
off Philadelphia 4-3 while Omar Infante (in-fahn-TAY') hit two-run
walkoff home run to give the Florida Marlins a 6-5 win over the
Braves.
NEW YORK (AP) - Mariano Rivera sits atop the world of relief
pitchers after notching his record 602nd save, passing Trevor
Hoffman on the all-time saves list. It came in the Yanks' 6-4 win
over Minnesota which, combined with Boston's doubleheader split
with Baltimore, increased the Yanks' lead to five games in the AL
East.
