WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Cliff Lee tossed a five-hitter for his sixth
shutout of the season, helping the NL East-leading Philadelphia
Phillies beat the second-place Atlanta Braves 9-0 last night. Lee
struck out six, walked none and needed only 100 pitches to finish
off the Braves after falling one out shy of a shutout in his
previous start at Cincinnati.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies have activated pitcher Joe
Blanton from the disabled list after the right-hander missed 3 1-2
months with an elbow injury. Blanton was added to the roster before
the NL East-leading Phillies opened a three-game set with
second-place Atlanta yesterday.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Houston Astros
3-1 yesterday. Ryan Doumit had three hits and James McDonald was
solid, pitching into the eighth inning. Josh Harrison added two
hits and Derrek Lee hit his 16th homer of the season - and fourth
with Pittsburgh.

PHILADEPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia Eagles' Michael Vick is ready
for the season opener Sunday against the Rams at St. Louis. He
spoke to reporters after practice yesterday about expectations that
have been placed on the Eagles. The veteran quarterback says
there's always pressure. He says, "We just have to make sure we
thrive off that pressure and produce on the field."

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers will open the 2011
regular season this Sunday in Baltimore against the Ravens.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says his team will be ready
to play. He says, "We have a couple more days to prepare and get
ready. We have no choice this week but to be ready."
