PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ryan Howard hit an RBI double in the 10th
inning soon after Cliff Lee fell one strike short of his seventh
shutout, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Florida Marlins 2-1
yesterday to sweep the day-night doubleheader. The Phillies reduced
their magic number for clinching a fifth straight NL East title to
two.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Florida
Marlins 3-1 yesterday in Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader at
Citizens Bank Park. Kyle Kendrick threw five strong innings in the
opener to help with the win.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Ross Ohlendorf got his first win of the
season in seven starts and hit a three-run homer to help the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 last night, a
loss that mathematically eliminated the bankrupt franchise from the
NL West race. Ohlendorf allowed two runs and four hits in seven
innings, struck out six and walked none.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles have history on
their side when they face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at the
Georgia Dome. The Eagles have defeated the Falcons in each of the
last three seasons, each time with a different cast of players and
even a couple different defensive coordinators.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Tackles Devon Still and Jordan Hill
are providing Penn State muscle as active defenders in the middle
of the trenches. They've combined for 23 tackles over Penn State's
first two games, with 13 and a forced fumble by Hill.
