PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The 76ers have agreed to a new multi-year
contract with restricted free agent forward Thaddeus Young. Sixers
president Rod Thorn said last week he'd match any reasonable offer
made to Philadelphia's top reserve. But they never let negotiations
get that far by signing him on the first day of training camp,
without having to match another team's offer.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will be
sidelined indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms. Flyers
general manager Paul Holmgren says Pronger has complained of a
fairly persistent headache and sluggish feeling over the last few
days. Pronger will visit with two concussions specialists Wednesday
in Pittsburgh.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The 76ers have signed first-round draft pick
Nikola Vucevic and second-round pick Lavoy Allen on the first day
of NBA training camp. The Sixers took Vucevic, the 7-foot,
260-pound out of USC, with the 16th overall selection. The Sixers
stayed local in the second round, picking Temple forward Allen with
the 50th pick.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Holding onto their last breath of making the
postseason, the Eagles will once again attempt to fix the weakest
link of their weakest unit. In what has become almost a weekly
change, the Eagles are asking their forgotten man, Casey Matthews,
to return to the nickel defense this week when they travel to Miami
to face the Dolphins in a battle of a 4-8 teams tomorrow.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - Lehigh's top receiver has been suspended
for Saturday's FCS quarterfinal at North Dakota State for
forwarding a message on social media that included a racial slur
against members of the Towson University team. The Division I
Football Championship Committee announced Thursday that it had also
reprimanded junior Ryan Spadola.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State will no longer license the
name, likeness or image of former coach Joe Paterno. A school
spokeswoman says the university sent notices this week to licensees
that Paterno's daughter, Mary Kay Hort, will now handle the
licensing program for JVP Properties. Penn State previously
assisted with licensing.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - UCLA swept four-time defending national
champion Penn State in the NCAA regional semifinals yesterday to
end the Nittany Lions' record 26-game postseason winning streak.
Aiyana Whitney had 12 kills for the eighth-seeded Nittany Lions in
the 25-20, 25-22, 25-21 loss.
