WPPA / T102 SPORTS / Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The person known as "Victim 1" in the Penn State child sex-abuse case has hired legal counsel. Philadelphia-area lawyers Michael Boni and Slade McLaughlin say they've been retained to represent Victim 1 and his mother. Authorities say Victim 1 is among eight boys molested over 15 years by former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A charity for at-risk children founded by a former Penn State assistant football coach now charged with molesting boys is telling its donors to give their money to the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape instead. The Second Mile told The Associated Press about the recommendation before posting the news on its website. The decision is the latest sign its days may be numbered.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The search is on for fired football coach Joe Paterno's replacement. A Penn State trustee and the head coach of the four-time defending national champion women's volleyball team are part of a six-person university committee that will lead the search. The school says the committee headed by acting athletic director Dave Joyner will meet this week.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh authorities expect to investigate allegations by a man who says he was molested by former Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine in a local hotel room nine years ago. Pittsburgh police say the department is aware of the accusations made by Zach Tomaselli of Maine.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Fans are calling for Andy Reid's dismissal more vehemently than ever. Assistant coaches are arguing on the sideline. A disgruntled star player isn't giving his best effort. There's no saving the Philadelphia Eagles this season. The best team money can buy turned out to be a whole lot of wasted dollars.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers remain in the thick of the AFC playoff race, but they know they have to play much better than they did in Sunday's sloppy 13-9 win over Kansas City. The Steelers improved to 8-3 by winning for the sixth time in seven games, but they had trouble on both sides of the ball.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will have surgery on his left knee today. He's expected to miss a month. It's been a tough season for Philadelphia's captain. He's also missed six games with an eye injury.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — C.J. McCollum scored 23 points and Lehigh used a hot-shooting second half to beat Quinnipiac 86-75 last night. Lehigh outscored Quinnipiac 24-16 in the paint in the second half and led 34-28 in that category for the game.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh coach Todd Graham is hoping the Panthers can salvage a disappointing season with a bowl berth. Pitt heads into its season finale on Saturday against Syracuse needing a win to become bowl eligible. It's not where the team picked to finish second in the conference expected to be heading into the first weekend of December.
