LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Miles Cartwright scored 27 points, including a layup to send the game into overtime and seven of his total in the extra frame, to send Pennsylvania to a 78-72 victory over Rider last night. Rider led 59-55 with 2:58 left in regulation and neither team scored again until Zack Rosen's layup pulled Penn within two points more than a minute later.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Carl Jones scored 21 points to lead Saint Joseph's to a 66-53 victory over Georgia Tech in the Charleston Classic last night. The Hawks used a 23-9 run in the second half to take control and advance to the winner's bracket game against Seton Hall, which defeated Virginia Commonwealth 69-54 in the eight-team tournament.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Dwayne Roloson made 33 saves, Vincent Lecavalier had two goals and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 last night. Brett Connolly and Steve Downie also scored for the Lightning, who have won six consecutive home games.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Matt Read knocked in a rebound with 18.6 seconds left to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes last night. Read's sixth goal of the season made a winner out of goalie Ilya Bryzgalov in his first game against the Coyotes.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State says former president Graham Spanier offered to resign last week to university trustees in the wake of the child sex abuse case that has surrounded the school. The board announced after a meeting November 9th that it decided Spanier was "no longer president." Neither the board, nor Spanier, specified if he resigned.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The top Democrat on the House education committee is calling for a hearing on the sex abuse scandals at Penn State and The Citadel. California Democratic Congressman George Miller says the hearing should look at whether changes are needed in federal laws designed to protect children and students.

UNDATED (AP) — The chief administrative officer of the Rose Bowl says if Penn State wins the Big Ten title, the Nittany Lions will be "embraced" by the bowl. Kevin Ash says the Rose Bowl would let the Big Ten or Pac 12 decide if there's a reason its champion shouldn't play in Pasadena.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Michael Vick didn't practice for the second straight day yesterday because of broken ribs. It's unclear whether the Pro Bowl quarterback will play when the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Giants on Sunday. Vick broke his two lower ribs on the second play of the Eagles' 21-17 loss to Arizona last weekend. He didn't tell anyone he was hurt and played through the pain.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have re-signed backup catcher Brian Schneider to a one-year contract. Schneider batted .176 with two homers and nine RBIs in 41 games. The Phillies were 28-8 in games he started, including a 19-game winning streak from May 7th to September 6th.
