STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and school administrator Gary Schultz have stepped down amid allegations of an explosive child-sex abuse scandal and cover-up in Happy Valley. In a brief statement released after an executive session of Penn State's Board of Trustees, university President Graham Spanier said late yesterday he had received a request from Curley to be placed on administrative leave. Schultz is stepping down and going back into retirement.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Coach Joe Paterno says he's shocked by sexual abuse charges brought against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and deeply saddened by the allegations. Paterno in a statement issued by his son, Scott, says he's troubled that someone he thought he knew may have harmed young people.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The chairman of Penn State's Board of Trustees says a task force will review school policies related to kids' safety. This comes amid allegations of a child sex-abuse scandal and cover up at Penn State. Chairman Steve Garban also says the action is not intended to interfere with the ongoing judicial process.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Joe Flacco hit Torrey Smith for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 8 seconds to go, lifting the Baltimore Ravens past the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-20 last night. Five plays after letting a sure touchdown toss tip off his hands, Smith capped Baltimore's game-winning 92-yard drive by beating William Gay down the right sideline as the Ravens snapped Pittsburgh's four-game winning streak.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers linebackers LaMarr Woodley and James Farrior were both inactive for Sunday night's showdown with Baltimore. Woodley missed his first game of the season with a strained hamstring suffered in the second half of a 25-17 win over New England last week. Farrior missed his second straight game with a calf injury.
