MONTREAL (AP) — Carey Price made 21 saves for his 100th win and Max Pacioretty had two goals and an assist and the Montreal Canadiens ended a six-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers last night. Pacioretty assisted on Andrei Kostitsyn's goal 10:26 into the second and scored 2:12 later to make it 3-1. He added his second goal of the game in the third.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Tino Sunseri threw for a career-high 419 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score as Pittsburgh rolled past Connecticut 35-20 last night. The Panthers snapped a two-game skid despite losing star running back Ray Graham to a nasty-looking right knee injury in the first quarter.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers say they're not afraid of the New England Patriots. The Steelers are 1-6 against New England when Tom Brady starts at quarterback, including a 39-26 loss at Heinz Field last year. Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery says the Steelers need to focus on the present and not worry about the past.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Under coach Andy Reid, the Philadelphia Eagles are 12-0 after a bye week. They're looking to extend that winning streak when they host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. It's another must-win for the Eagles, who can't afford to lose any more after a poor start.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Unhappy he was trade bait, Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel took a shot at Eagles' management. He criticized the team's front-office and compared them to people who play fantasy football. Samuel says he doesn't have any problem with coach Andy Reid.
DALLAS (AP) — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Vince Young is being sued by a Dallas strip club manager he allegedly punched in the face last year. Creiton Kinchen claims the 28-year-old Houston native and former University of Texas star hit him without provocation at the club. Young's agent could not immediately be reached for comment.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — When Chris Pronger returns to the NHL, he will also wear a protective eye shield. The Philadelphia Flyers defenseman was injured this week when a wayward stick jabbed him just outside his right eye during a 4-2 win over Toronto. While some players, like Pronger, have refused to wear a visor, the time could be near when they're as much a part of the game as sticks and gloves.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — A new crop of playmakers have emerged in Happy Valley to help Number 21 Penn State. Sophomore Silas Redd has a Big Ten-leading 869 yards in his first year as the featured tailback in place of school career rushing leader Evan Royster. The Nittany Lions lost a key player when linebacker Michael Mauti went down with a left knee injury in Week 4. But junior Gerald Hodges has picked up the big-play slack.
