PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jaromir Jagr and Scott Hartnell scored their first two goals of the season as the Flyers downed the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2. The win was overshadowed by defenseman Chris Pronger's injury, taking a stick to the face during a scramble for a loose puck with the Leafs' Mikhail Grabovski.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger is on bed rest and will miss two to three weeks after taking a stick in the face during last night's win over Toronto. Pronger and Toronto's Mikhail Grabovski were going after a loose puck when their sticks connected, sending one up into Pronger's face.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Phillies have declined the team's options for pitchers Roy Oswalt and Brad Lidge. Oswalt went 9-10 this past season in 23 starts but was due to make $16 million next year. Instead he'll get a $2 million buyout. Lidge will get a $1.5 million buyout. GM Ruben Amaro Jr. says the Phillies will consider re-signing both players.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Penguins defenseman Zbynek Michalek's broken finger will have him out for as many as six weeks. Michalek broke the finger on his right hand in the third period of Saturday's 4-1 win over New Jersey when he dived to block a slap shot by the Devils' Rod Pelley. Michalek will not need surgery to repair the break.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — After an uneven start to the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers' foes get considerably tougher with a homestand against New England followed by Baltimore. The Steelers are 5-2 but were crushed by the Ravens in Week One. The Steelers have also had their problems facing the Patriots during the Tom Brady era.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Defending national champion Penn State gets a rematch this weekend against new number 1 Nebraska in women's volleyball. The Cornhuskers took over the top spot after beating previously unbeaten and top-ranked Illinois last weekend. Nebraska beat Penn State in their first matchup in September. The Lions will open the weekend's play by hosting Iowa Friday.
