NEW YORK (AP) — Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky is telling NBC that he's innocent of child sex abuse charges that shocked the sports world and resulted in the firing of coach Joe Paterno. In a telephone interview with Bob Costas for NBC News' "Rock Center," that aired Monday night, Sandusky also denies accusations that he's a pedophile.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Juan Fernandez scored 19 points and Ramone Moore 15 as Temple pulled away in overtime for a 73-67 victory over Pennsylvania last night. Moore's 3-point jumper put the Owls ahead to stay, 66-64, with 1:18 left in the extra period, and Fernandez followed with another 3-pointer for a five-point lead with 17 seconds to play.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Lamar Kearse had 18 points as one of five double-figure scorers for New Jersey Institute of Technology in a 113-61 rout of Division III Penn State-Abington last night. Sammy Shickel scored 14 points, Arjun Ohri 13, Marques Jones 12 and Isaiah Wilkerson 10 for the Highlanders.

LORETTO, Pa. (AP) — Ryan Willen scored 14 of his 22 points in the second half as Lafayette held off St. Francis 84-81 last night. The Leopards led 40-32 at halftime, before being outscored 49-44 in the second.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Tim Frazier scored 20 points, Trey Lewis added nine and Penn State defeated Radford 62-46 last night. The Nittany Lions used a 14-0 run midway through the first half to gain control. In the wake of the child sex abuse scandal that rocked the school last week, Penn State's coaching staff wore blue sneakers to honor victims of child abuse.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Claude Giroux had two goals and an assist to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes last night. Matt Read had a goal and an assist, and Maxime Talbot and Wayne Simmonds scored the other goals for Philadelphia, which got three assists from Chris Pronger.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Penn State University was one of the donors to the youth charity at the center of the child sex-abuse charges against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Penn State donated between $1000 and $1999 to The Second Mile in 2009, and its Altoona campus donated between $2000 and $4999 that same year. Another donor was the judge who granted unsecured bail to Sandusky.

PARK RIDGE, Ill. (AP) — The Big Ten has taken Joe Paterno's name off the Big Ten's football championship trophy. League commissioner Jim Delany says it's "inappropriate" to keep Paterno's name on the trophy that will be awarded next month after the first Big Ten title game.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Michael Vick played with two broken ribs in the Eagles' 21-17 loss to Arizona on Sunday. Coach Andy Reid says Vick broke his two lower ribs, but didn't "say a word" and played through the pain. His status for Sunday night's game at the New York Giants is uncertain.
