HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A former Penn State assistant football coach accused of molesting boys is set to face his accusers today. The preliminary hearing for Jerry Sandusky will last at least one day. Sandusky is charged with more than 50 counts of child sex abuse involving 10 boys. The accusers could testify publicly for the first time about what prosecutors say was years of child abuse. Sandusky admits showering with boys but says he didn't molest them.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Court officials setting media rules for the preliminary hearing for a former Penn State assistant football coach accused of molesting boys will allow real-time reporting from the courtroom. Officials say reporters will be allowed to email, send text messages and tweet from inside the courtroom in Centre County during Jerry Sandusky's hearing.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Every time the Philadelphia Eagles have won a game during this lost season, they've considered it a starting point. They've run out of time to turn things around, but they're still clinging to playoff hopes. A 26-10 win at Miami on Sunday coupled with the New York Giants' 37-34 victory at Dallas kept Philadelphia alive in the division race.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison doesn't think the NFL should fine him for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy in last week's victory over the Browns. Harrison says he hasn't heard from the NFL and doesn't expect to. The 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year insists he did nothing wrong on the play.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms. Crosby says he noticed a recurrence of the problems that sidelined him for more than 10 months earlier this year following a 3-1 loss to Boston last week. Crosby sat out Pittsburgh's two-game road trip to Philadelphia and New York as a precaution but says he's noticed familiar symptoms during light workouts over the weekend.
VOORHEES, N.J. (AP) — Flyers center Claude Giroux will not make the trip to Washington for tonight's game as he recovers from a head injury. Giroux leads the NHL with 39 points. He was hit in the back of the head by teammate Wayne Simmonds on Saturday night against Tampa Bay.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have traded outfielder Ben Francisco to the Toronto Blue Jays for left-hander Frank Gailey. Francisco spent parts of three seasons with the Phils, hitting .259 with 17 home runs and 75 RBIs in 225 games. He hit a three-run, pinch-hit homer to lead the Phillies past St. Louis in Game 3 of the 2011 NL division series. The Cardinals won the series in five games.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired third baseman Casey McGehee from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for reliever Jose Veras. The move came hours after the Brewers agreed to terms with free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez yesterday.
