MEN'S TOP 25 COLLEGE BASKETBALL
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Gilbert Brown and Ashton Gibbs made two free throws in the final 30 seconds and No. 25 Pittsburgh staged a frantic rally to tie it in regulation, then weathered three
exhausting overtimes and West Virginia's own comeback to beat the No. 5 Mountaineers 98-95. Gibbs and Brad Wanamaker scored 24 points each.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jack Eggleston scored a career-high 24 points and Penn used a strong second-half run to upset Cornell 79-64, snapping the Big Red's eight-game winning streak. Zach Rosen added 22 points and six assists for the Quakers, who shot a season-high 56.3 percent from the field.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Herb Magee has career win Number 900 in sight. Magee has coached Division II Philadelphia University for 43 years and won his 899th game when the Division II Rams beat Holy Family on Friday. Magee can get No. 900 when the Rams play Bloomfield College on Saturday.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers will treat 2010 as if it were a capped season and will not take advantage of the lack of an NFL collective bargaining agreement to try to add more quality free agents than usual. Director of football operations Kevin Colbert acknowledges the Steelers could be at a competitive disadvantage, but he says a commonsense approach is the right one.
