PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Kyle Brodziak scored in overtime to give theMinnesota Wild a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers last night.Flyers goalie Brian Boucher initially gloved Brodziak's shot, butthe puck bounced out and Boucher kicked it into the net.

SEATTLE (AP) - Fredy Montero set up the first goal of the 2010Major League Soccer season, then scored on a diving header and theSeattle Sounders beat the expansion Philadelphia Union 2-0 lastnight. Last year in Seattle's inaugural game, Montero came awaywith two goals and an assist in Seattle's 3-0 win over the New YorkRed Bulls.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Greg Dobbs hit a two-out single to scoreJohn Mayberry Junior in the ninth inning, lifting the PhiladelphiaPhillies to an 8-7 win over the Houston Astros yesterday. BrettMyers' spring training homecoming came to an abrupt end when theAstros' right-hander left the game with a strained groin in thesixth inning.

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - Nate McLouth homered in his first at-batThursday against his former team, but it wasn't enough for theAtlanta Braves, who lost 7-6 in 10 innings against the PittsburghPirates yesterday. John Raynor scored on a wild pitch with two outsin the 10th. The Pirates tied the game by scoring five runs in theeighth inning off Jesse Chavez.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Flyers leading scorer Jeff Carter is havingsurgery on his broken left foot and hopes to be back in time forthe playoffs. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren says Carter willhave a screw placed in the foot today. The center is expected tomiss three or four weeks.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Thomas Young had 15 points and ledfive double-figure scorers and Indiana (Pa.) beat St. Cloud State76-70 in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament lastnight. Darryl Webb had 12 points and 15 rebounds for IUP. AshtonSmith added 14 points, Kevin Stewart had 11 and Akida McLain 10.Taylor Witt led St. Cloud State with 16 points.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A person familiar with trade discussionsinvolving Donovan McNabb tells the AP that the Philadelphia Eagleswon't consider a deal for the six-time Pro Bowl quarterback unlessit includes a pick among the top 42 in next month's NFL draft.Eagles coach Andy Reid acknowledged this week he's consideringoffers for McNabb, Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Spring practice opens today at PennState, where coach Joe Paterno will begin sifting through thequarterback candidates. Daryll Clark is hoping to hook on in theNFL after two successful seasons as the starter. That will leavethe quarterback job in the hands of an inexperienced player inSeptember's opener against Youngstown State.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Vicente Padilla will be the starter forthe Los Angeles Dodgers when they open the season April 5 atPittsburgh. Manager Joe Torre said yesterday that Padilla'sperformance in the playoffs last season helped land him the spot.He allowed only one run in just over 14 innings before losing Game5 of the championship series to Philadelphia.
