NEW YORK (AP) - Sean Avery returned to the ice and scored twogoals to help the New York Rangers beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1yesterday. Avery sat out New York's win at Atlanta on Friday.Michal Rozsival also scored for the Rangers. Danny Briere scoredhis 24th goal for Philadelphia.

(AP) - Pascal Dupuis and Sergei Gonchar scoredwithin three minutes of each other in the third period, andMarc-Andre Fleury made 21 saves as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat theTampa Bay Lightning 2-1 yesterday. Gonchar scored the winning goalon a power play, blasting in a slap from just inside the blue line.Vincent Lecavalier scored for Tampa Bay.
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Brian Matusz gave up three hits and a runin his five in Baltimore's 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Philliesyesterday. Matusz struck out two and did not walk a batter. KyleKendrick pitched four scoreless innings for the Phillies. Heallowed two singles, hit one batter, and did not walk or strike outany.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Temple is the fifth seed in the EastRegional and will play Number 12 seed Cornell in the NCAAtournament. The 29-5 Owls won their third straight Atlantic 10tournament title on Sunday. The Owls had been hoping for a three orfour seed. Athletic director Bill Bradshaw called the Number 5 seed"disappointing."
ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) - The Oakland Golden Grizzlies are the14th-seeded team in the West Region, with a first-round matchupagainst third-seeded Pittsburgh. The game will be Friday inMilwaukee. Oakland earned an automatic bid after winning the SummitLeague championship last Tuesday.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Duquesne's basketball season didn't end in theAtlantic 10 tournament after all. The Dukes will play at PrincetonWednesday in the first round of the College BasketballInvitational, a 3-year-old event for teams that don't make the NCAAor NIT. The winner meets the winner of the IUPUI-Hofstra game at atime and site to be determined later.
