WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Friday

UNDATED (AP) - Allen Iverson has agreed in principle to a $4
million, two-year contract with the Turkish professional team
Besiktas. Iverson is expected to officially sign with the club this
weekend and will begin his overseas career the week of November 8.
His management team put out a release Thursday night. Iverson and
Besiktas officials will hold a press conference in New York on
Friday.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies have cut ties with pitcher
Jamie Moyer, reserve Greg Dobbs and catcher Paul Hoover. The three
elected free agency. It was a procedural move, as Moyer wasn't
expected to return next season. The 47-year-old was 9-9 with a 4.84
ERA in the final season of a $14.5 million contract he signed after
helping Philadelphia win the World Series in 2008.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State appears to be leaning
toward naming Matt McGloin the starter against Michigan on Saturday
nigyht, with Rob Bolden recovering from a possible head injury.
Coach Joe Paterno said Thursday night in a taped segment on the
team's weekly radio show that he would go with McGloin as of
Thursday, and that he would prefer to use just one quarterback.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Japanese eating champion Takeru Kobayashi is
considering chowing down on chicken wings in Philadelphia's bawdy
Wing Bowl. Kobayashi is a six-time champion in the Coney Island
Fourth of July hot dog contest. He took a recruiting trip to Wing
Bowl's site on Thursday where he sampled some of the wings made for
the Super Bowl weekend contest.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Dick's Sporting Goods faces a federal lawsuit
alleging its Nebraska employees weren't justly paid for their work.
Dannette Stackhouse says in her lawsuit that employees were forced
to work through breaks, were unpaid for overtime and were sometimes
locked in the store until work was finished, all in violation of
state law. Dick's says it has more than 420 stores in 41 states.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Finally, it's time for the Pittsburgh Steelers
to take the warmup jacket off Ziggy Hood. He's had two training
camps, two offseasons, a full season and part of another one to
become comfortable with coordinator Dick LeBeau's complicated
defense. Hood is expected to make his first NFL start Sunday at
left defensive end against the Saints.
