PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Flyers scored 7 goals and lost last
night in an 8-7 setback to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Flyers gave
up a two goal advantage in the loss. Nikolay Zherdev scored twice
for Philadelphia, and Andreas Nodl, Jeff Carter, Scott Hartnell,
Danny Briere and Andrej Meszaros also scored.
NEW YORK (AP) - Freshman Talib Zanna had 14 points and 12
rebounds to lead Number 5 Pittsburgh to a 79-70 victory over
Maryland on Thursday night in the semifinals of the 2K Sports
Classic. The 6-foot-9 Zanna, who averaged 8.3 points and 8.0
rebounds in his first three games, led the Panthers.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jerrell Williams tied his career high with
21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as La Salle defeated Prairie View
A&M 88-74 last night in their Cancun Challenge opener. The
Explorers used a strong second half to pull away from the Panthers
in the first meeting between the schools.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says Michael
Vick is doing all the right things and he's proud of the way the
Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback has turned his life around after
serving time in prison for his role in a dogfighting ring. Goodell
tells the New York Daily News that Vick is doing a terrific job on
and off the field.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) - Bruce Gradkowski is finally fully healed
from a separated throwing shoulder just in time for the Oakland
Raiders to make another trip to his hometown of Pittsburgh - the
site of his greatest NFL victory. Gradkowski started the season for
Oakland, but now he heads into this week's game against his
hometown Steelers backing up Jason Campbell.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State's Joe Paterno has been
honored by Congress for his 400th career win.The U.S. House passed
a resolution yesterday lauding the Hall of Fame coach after the
Nittany Lions secured his latest milestone with a come-from-behind
victory over Northwestern two weeks ago.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles are going even
greener. The team will add wind turbines, solar panels and a
co-generation plant at Lincoln Financial Field over the next year.
Team officials say the combination of energy sources will make the
stadium self-sufficient and even allow the Eagles to sell some of
its power back to the electric grid.
