BALTIMORE (AP) - Ben Roethlisberger threw a 9-yard touchdown
pass to Isaac Redman with 2:51 left after Troy Polamalu forced a
fumble with a sack of Joe Flacco, and the Steelers beat the Ravens
13-10 last night to gain sole possession of first place in the AFC
North. The victory leaves Pittsburgh a game ahead of the Ravens in
the division.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Daniel Briere scored the tiebreaking goal
with 5:44 left and the Philadelphia Flyers held on to beat the
Islanders yet again, 3-2 yesterday. Matt Carle and Andreas Nodl
also scored for Philadelphia, and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 28 shots
for the win.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) - Former Phillies right fielder
Jayson Werth agreed Sunday to a $126 million, seven-year contract
with the Washington Nationals. The 31-year-old, who helped the
Phillies win the 2008 World Series title, hit .296 this year in his
fourth and final season with the Phillies. He had an NL-high 46
doubles, 27 homers and 85 RBIs.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Lavoy Allen hit a crucial three-point play and
Temple escaped with a 64-61 victory over Maryland in yesterday's
BB&T Classic, despite yielding a 15-point lead. Allen finished with
13 points and 10 rebounds, Ramone Moore had 16 points and Juan
Fernandez had 14 for the Owls, who won their second straight.

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - Ian Hummer scored 17 points to lead five
players in double figures as Princeton defeated Saint Joseph's
74-65 on yesterday. Carl Jones led the Hawks with 24 points. St.
Joseph's, which lost its third straight, also got 10 points from
Ronald Roberts.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Florida has accepted a bid to play Penn State
in the Outback Bowl. Penn State will be making its fourth Outback
appearance. The Nittany Lions last played in the game against
Tennessee in 2007. The Gators and Lions have met twice before.
Florida beat Penn State 17-7 in the 1962 Gator Bowl and defeated
the Nittany Lions 21-6 in the Citrus Bowl in 1998.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Pittsburgh and Kentucky will meet in the
BBVA Compass Bowl on January 8th. Pittsburgh finished in a
three-way tie for the Big East title. The Panthers have had a
disappointing season after opening ranked 15th and favored to win
the conference.
