WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Wednesday

WASHINGTON (AP) - Washington's Nick Young hit an open 3-pointer
with 7.6 seconds left in overtime, and the Wizards capitalized on
Jrue Holiday's unwise foul in the final seconds of regulation to
beat the 76ers 116-114 last night. Young's winning shot wouldn't
have been possible if Holiday hadn't fouled John Wall some 40 feet
from the basket with 3.5 seconds left and the 76ers leading by
three.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ashton Gibbs scored 20 points and Number 5
Pittsburgh pulled away from smaller Robert Morris after leading by
five points with 11 minutes remaining, winning 74-53 last night.
Brad Wanamaker scored 17 points and Gary McGhee had 11 points and
12 rebounds for the Panthers, who are 29-0 against their suburban
Pittsburgh rival.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is refusing to
criticize the NFL for not suspending Oakland defensive end Richard
Seymour or the club-record 163 yards in penalties assessed his team
during a 35-3 rout of the Raiders on Sunday. Tomlin says he wants
his players focusing only on what they can control, and that begins
with their preparation for Sunday's game at Buffalo.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel is
expected to play at Buffalo after missing all but a few plays of
the last five games with a sore hamstring. Rookie wide receiver
Antonio Brown will be limited in practice and might not play
Sunday. Tight end Matt Spaeth's status is uncertain because of a
concussion he sustained Sunday against Oakland.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies say that they will offer
arbitration to free-agent outfielder Jayson Werth. They won't do
the same for free-agent reliever Chad Durbin. Werth will be among
the marquee names in this year's free-agent market. He's been a key
cog in the franchise's run of four straight National League East
division titles.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Flyers have signed minor league forward
Michael Ryan to a one-year contract. General manager Paul Holmgren
says Ryan has been assigned to the team's American Hockey League
affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms. The 6-1, 188-pound left wing
attended training camp with the Flyers this year on a tryout basis.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Joe Paterno says he plans to return as
Penn State coach next season, putting an end to any speculation
about retirement. JoePa said his team has struggled at times this
year because of youth and injuries, but that the Nittany Lions have
a chance to be good next year and that he's looking forward to
being part of it.

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Thomas Merriweather scored on a 96-yard
touchdown run in the fourth quarter as Miami of Ohio blew out
Temple 23-3 last night in Mid-American Conference action. The
RedHawks clinched a share of the Eastern Division title with the
victory.
