PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Dwight Howard scored 30 points and had 17
rebounds while Dwight Howard scored 13 coming off the bench as the
Orlando Magic beat the 76ers last night, 99-95. Andre Iguodala
scored 21 points and Jodie Meeks put in 17 for the Sixers in the
loss.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - A four-point play with a fraction of a
second on the clock capped a 25-point performance by Jonathan
Mitchell as Rutgers beat 9th-ranked Villanova, 77-76, last night.
Mitchell hit a 3-point shot from 25 feet out and was fouled by
Corey Fisher. He then hit the tie-breaking free throw.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Temple got its fifth straight win, but also
a bit of a scare, over Fordham last night, 77-66. Ramon Moore
scored 22 points to lead the 24th-ranked Owls. Fordham trailed big
early but at one point pulled to within three as Temple missed 18
of its first 20 shots from the field after halftime.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Penguins forward Matt Cooke has drawn a
four-game suspension from the league after his hit on Columbus
defenseman Fedor Tyutin earlier this week. The suspension means
Cooke will miss tonight's game against Los Angeles, as well as
upcoming games against the Islanders, Rangers and Colorado.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin is set to have
surgery today to repair torn ligaments in his right knee, with the
team expecting he will miss six months. Malkin was injured last
Friday against the Buffalo Sabres. He had 15 goals and 37 points on
the season. GM Ray Shero says Malkin should be ready for the start
of training camp for next season.
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has
hired away another Steelers coach. The team says Ray Horton has
been hired as defensive coordinator. He had been with the Steelers
for seven years -- the last four as defensive backs coach. Horton
will replace Bill Davis, who was fired after two seasons with the
Cardinals.
LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Bucknell was able to hold off American
University 66-60 last night to hold on to sole possession of first
place in the Patriot League. Mike Muscala scored 21 points for the
Bison, who have won 15 of their last 17. The victory also gave
Bison coach Dave Paulsen his 300th career win.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - James Madison rallied to down Drexel last
night, 68-54. Denzel Bowles scored 23 points and had 14 rebounds
for the Dukes. Samme Givens led Drexel with 22 points and 11
rebounds and Dartaye Ruffin added 10 points for the Dragons in the
loss.
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) - Robert Morris used its advantages in
rebounding and free-throw shooting to down St. Francis 78-68 last
night. Karon Abraham scored 20 points in the win, while Velton
Jones and Lijah Thompson each had 16 points for the Colonials,
which improved to 11-13.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) - Jared Mintz scored 19 points and Lafayette
beat Colgate 80-65 last night -- its third win in four games. The
Leopards were able to take the lead for good on Ben Wheeler's
3-pointer with 12:47 in the first half. Lafayette then expanded the
lead to 16 by the break. Mitch Rolls had 12 to lead Colgate.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Lehigh never trailed last night as the
Mountain Hawks downed Navy 87-72 in Annapolis. Michael Ojo had 23
points and 11 rebounds in the win. Lehigh swept the Midshipmen for
the first time since 2006, outrebounding Navy 49-25 and making 10
of 20 shots from 3-point range.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A layup with 19 seconds left from Ruben
Guillandeaux lifted La Salle past Saint Louis last night, 78-77.
Guillandeaux finished with 20 points while Jerrell Williams added
20 points and 11 rebounds for the Explorers and while Aaric Murray
scored 18 points.
