PHILADELPHIA (AP) - David Krejci scored 14:00 into overtime and
the Bruins beat the Flyers 3-2 last night to take a 2-0 lead in the
Eastern Conference semifinal series. James van Riemsdyk had a
breakout game for the Flyers. He scored two goals and was all over
the ice trying to help the Flyers win at least one at home.
Instead, they have to rally from another deficit.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger sat out Game
2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Boston with an
undisclosed injury. The former NHL MVP had hand surgery in March.
He also missed time with a foot injury and was limited to just 50
games this season.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Garrett Jones and Chris Snyder each hit a
two-run homer in the first inning to back James McDonald, and the
Pirates beat the Padres 4-3 last night. The Pirates snapped a
nine-game losing streak to San Diego dating to 2009. They've won
four of six overall, including consecutive games for the first time
since April 17th and 18th.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates are reportedly discussing a
long-term contract extension with outfielder Andrew McCutchen. The
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports McCutchen was vocal about his
desire to stay with the Pirates for his "whole career."

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies had yesterday off after their
14 inning loss Sunday night to the New York Mets. They'll be
opening a series today at Citizens Bank Park against the Nationals.
Cole Hamels is slated to start the opener for the Phillies while
Livan Hernandez is scheduled on the mound for the Nationals.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Roy Oswalt is scheduled to return to the
Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday and could start Saturday. The
right-hander left the team last Wednesday to be with his family in
tornado-ravaged Mississippi. Left-hander Cole Hamels will start
today against the Washington Nationals in place of Oswalt.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies right fielder Domonic Brown, who
broke his right hamate bone in spring training, has begun a rehab
assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Second baseman Chase Utley,
out all season with a knee injury, played a three-inning simulated
game Sunday and is still listed as day-to-day.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Dallas Mavericks closed with a 10-2 run
to upset the two-time NBA champion L.A. Lakers 96-94 in the opener
of that Western Conference semifinal. Dallas rallied from a
16-point second-half deficit behind Dirk Nowitzki's
28 points and 14 rebounds.

CHICAGO (AP) - Joe Johnson's 34 points led the Atlanta Hawks to
a 103-95 upset of the Chicago Bulls, the team that finished with
the best regular-season record in the NBA's Eastern Conference.
That gives the Hawks a 1-0 series lead heading into Game 2
Wednesday night in Chicago.

CHICAGO (AP) - A person familiar with the decision says Derrick
Rose has become the NBA's youngest MVP and joined Michael Jordan as
the only Bulls players to win the award. A formal announcement has
not been made, but that could come today.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Boston Bruins are going home with a 2-0
lead in their NHL Eastern Conference semifinal. David Krejci
(KRAY'-chee) scored just over 14 minutes into OT and Tim Thomas
made 46 saves in the Bruins' 3-2 victory over Philadelphia.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Andre Ethier (EE'-thee-ur) is halfway to
tying Joe DiMaggio's record 56-game hitting streak in 1941. The
L.A. Dodgers outfielder had an RBI single in the fifth inning last
night, extending his hitting streak to 28 games - the longest by a
Dodger since Willie Davis had a team-record 31-game streak in 1969.
