NEW YORK (AP) - Nick Swisher and the Yankees have handed Roy
Halladay a rare thumping, beating the Phillies and their ace 8-3
last night in a World Series rematch. Mark Teixeira, Curtis
Granderson and Swisher all homered off Halladay to build a
comfortable cushion for CC Sabathia in a marquee pitching matchup
that fizzled early.
NEW YORK (AP) - The Phillies have flip-flopped starters for the
final two games of the series with the Yankees. Lefty Jamie Moyer
will now pitch tonight instead of tomorrow. Righty Kyle Kendrick
gets the nod in the series finale.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The White Sox have spoiled former first-round
draft pick Brad Lincoln's first start at home, beating Pittsburgh
6-4 last night and extending the last-place Pirates' losing streak
to nine games. Gordon Beckham drove in three runs for the Sox and
Ramon Castro doubled in a run while reaching base four consecutive
times for Chicago.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates say top prospect Pedro Alvarez has
some work to do before he's called up to the big leagues. The third
baseman remained at Triple-A Indianapolis as Pittsburgh opened an
interleague series against the White Sox yesterday. General manager
Neil Huntington say Alvarez has to improve in some areas before
he's major league ready.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed wide
receiver Emmanuel Sanders and three other draft picks, giving them
six picks under contract. In addition to Sanders, who's a
third-round pick from SMU, fifth-round linebacker Stevenson
Sylvester and sixth-rounders Jonathan Dwye and Antonio Brown, have
signed.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Soul are returning to the
Arena Football League. The former league champions will return for
the 2011 season without their famous former co-owner, Jon Bon Jovi.
Co-owner Craig Spencer and former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski
are part of the new ownership group. The Soul shut down after
winning the ArenaBowl championship in 2008.
DALLAS (AP) - The two Dallas Cowboys employees suing over
injuries they suffered in the collapse of the team's practice
facility last year have reached out-of-court settlements with the
Allentown company that built the structure. Both Cowboys scout Rich
Behm and special teams coach Joe DeCamillas show that both have
settled with Summit Structures LLC and its Canadian parent company.
