PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Dallas Mavericks' Jason's led them past
the Philadelphia 76ers last night, 101-93. Jason Terry led the
Mavericks with 30 points, while Jason Kidd added 13 points, 13
assists and 10 rebounds. Andre Iguodala scored 15 points to lead
the Sixers in the losing effort, while Jrue Holiday had 14 points.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State wasn't able to slow down
top-ranked Ohio State last night. Jon Diebler scored 30 points,
including a career-high 10 3-pointers as the Buckeyes downed the
Nittany Lions, 82-61. Senior Talor Battle scored 18 points in his
final regular-season home game for Penn State, which dropped to
15-13.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Cliff Lee was a little rusty in his
spring training debut yesterday for the Phillies, giving up a pair
of runs, as Philadelphia fell to a Detroit Tigers split squad, 6-2.
Lee went two innings and hit the first batter he faced, Will
Rhymes. The left-hander also walked one.
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - Pittsburgh Pirates starter James McDonald
threw two scoreless innings yesterday and the Pirates downed the
Yankees 2-0 in Bradenton, Florida. McDonald gave up just two hits,
while Pedro Ciriaco's RBI double gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the
sixth inning. In the seventh, Garrett Jones walked and then scored
on Josh Fields' sacrifice fly.
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) - Raul Ibanez has showed up at spring
training with a new look after packing on some extra muscle during
the offseason. The former All-Star left fielder says the extra heft
is the result of some grueling workout sessions with training guru
Steve Saunders over the offseason. He hopes the improved body will
help him avoid injury and have a big season for the Phillies.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Lackawanna College standout linebacker
Fabby Desir is headed to North Carolina. Desir played two seasons
for Lackawanna with 45 tackles, seven sacks and an interception in
eight games last season. North Carolina had earlier announced a
25-player recruiting class on national signing day last month.
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) - Former Binghamton University basketball
player D.J. Rivera has struck a plea deal in a theft case, pleading
guilty to criminal possession of stolen property. The
Philadelphia-native admits he used a debit card that another
student had lost at a party -- buying a TV set, clothing and
cigars. Under the plea deal, Rivera will pay restitution and be put
on probation.
