MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis took forward Sam Young of
Pittsburgh with the 36th pick overall in the NBA draft. Young was
All-Big East and set Pitt's single-season record with 690 points.
He finished fourth in the Big East in scoring with 19.2 points per
game.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The San Antonio Spurs drafted Pitt
All-America DeJuan Blair with the 37th pick in the NBA draft. Blair
averaged 15.7 points and 12.3 rebounds for Pitt and was the Big
East co-player of the year with Connecticut's Hasheem Thabeet, who
was drafted No. 2 overall by Memphis.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia 76ers have selected UCLA
guard Jrue Holiday with the 17th pick in the NBA draft. Holiday
left the Bruins after only one season and could be used as a combo
guard out of the backcourt.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Willy Aybar homered and drove in
three runs as a replacement for an injured Evan Longoria, leading
the Tampa Bay Rays to a 10-4 victory over the Philadelphia
Phillies.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Andrew McCutchen hit a game-ending bloop
single to score Jack Wilson and give the Pittsburgh Pirates a
come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians. McCutchen
singled to left off Matt Herges with runners on first and third and
no outs in the ninth.
