PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Toronto's Scott Richmond struck out a
career-high 11 in eight innings, Aaron Hill hit a two-run homer and
the Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-1 last night. Jayson
Werth homered for the NL East-leading Phillies, who fell to 13-18
at home. The two teams finish out the series with a matinee at 1:05
this afternoon.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Pittsburgh's Ian Snell won for the first time
in two months, leading the Pirates past Francisco Liriano and the
Minnesota Twins 8-2 Wednesday night. Adam LaRoche homered for
Pittsburgh, in a three-run eighth against reliever Sean Henn. The
series finishes at 1:10 this afternoon.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Tyler Yates, who
has been on the Disabled List with elbow inflammation, is in
Florida for rehabilitation. But team officials say it will still be
a few weeks before Yates is cleared to throw.
NEW YORK (AP) - Philadelphia's Charlie Manuel has selected
Dodgers manager Joe Torre as a National League coach for next
month's All-Star game in St. Louis. Tony LaRussa of the St. Louis
Cardinals was chosen as the other NL coach. American League manager
Joe Maddon of Tampa Bay picked Kansas City's Trey Hillman and
Seattle's Don Wakamatsu as his coaches. The game is July 14.
