The team won theStanley Cup on Friday after beating the Detroit Red Wings 2-1.

NEW YORK (AP) - Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals is themost-watched NHL game in 36 years. The Pittsburgh Penguins'championship-clinching 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on NBC onFriday night averaged 8 million viewers. The network said Mondaythat's the most since Game 6 of the 1973 Stanley Cup finals betweenMontreal and Chicago.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Phillies send Cole Hamels to the moundto face the Toronto Blue Jays in an interleague game. Hamels is 4-2and will be making his first career start against the Blue Jays.Ricky Romero will pitch for Toronto, which is winless in sixinterleague games with 12 remaining. The game is the first of athree-game set.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates go for their fifth winis six games when they open a three-game interleage series at theMetrodome. Pittsburgh is four games behind first-place Milwaukee inthe NL Central and will send left-hander Paul Maholm to the mound.The Twins are coming off a 5-5 road trip and are 11-7 againstPittsburgh.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Flyers defenseman Derian Hatcher hasretired. Knee replacement surgery two weeks in effect ended his16-year career. The 37-year-old former Flyers captain joined thecoaching staff Monday as player development coach. Hatcher replacesformer Flyer Eric Desjardins, who resigned to pursue businessinterests.
