SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Freddy Sanchez had two hits and two RBIs in
his first game with San Francisco, Barry Zito made his third
straight strong start and the Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies
7-3 yesterday. Jimmy Rollins homered for the Phillies, who still
own the second-best record in the National League. The Phillies
have the day off.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Josh Willingham hit a two-run homer as part of
a three-run seventh inning and the Washington Nationals rallied for
a 5-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday. Ryan Zimmerman had
two hits and two runs, Alberto Gonzalez had two RBIs and Mike
MacDougal earned his seventh save for the Nationals. Both teams
play again tonight.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Eagles middle linebacker Stewart Bradley
injured his knee and cornerback Ellis Hobbs left with a stinger
during practice last night. Both players will have MRI tests today.
LONG POND, Pa. (AP) - The Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway has
been postponed because of rain and rescheduled for today. Heavy
rain hit the track yesterday. Three-time defending champion Jimmie
Johnson was among a group of NASCAR drivers to be honored at the
White House by President Barack Obama today.
