PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Raul Ibanez hit a three-run homer, Carlos
Ruiz and Ryan Howard each went deep as the Philadelphia Phillies
won their ninth straight game, 10-1 over the Chicago Cubs last
night. The Phillies are on their longest winning streak since 2006
and improved to 23-23 at home. The Phillies and Cubs do it again
this evening just after 7.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Pedro Martinez says he is ready to get
back on the mound. The Philadelphia Phillies' new right-hander is
getting closer to making a rehab start as he returns to the major
leagues. Just last week, Martinez signed a one-year, $1 million
contract with the Phillies. He's now on the 15-day disabled list
because of a shoulder strain.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Delwyn Young and Garrett Jones homered to help
the Pittsburgh Pirates end a 17-game skid against the Milwaukee
Brewers, with an 8-5 victory last night. Andrew McCutchen had three
hits and scored two runs for Pittsburgh, which snapped the major's
longest losing streak against a single opponent in 39 years. The
series continues tonight.
RENO, Nev. (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben
Roethlisberger has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by
a woman in Nevada. Roethlisberger's attorney released a statement
last night saying the two-time Super Bowl winner was accused of
sexual assault in the lawsuit by Andrea McNulty. Details of the
suit were not immediately available last night.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Military insurer USAA has signed a 10-year
agreement to sponsor the annual Army-Navy football game, including
this year's game in Philadelphia on December 12.The U.S. Naval
Academy and the U.S. Military Academy announced the agreement
Yesterday.
