WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Chase Utley hit a three-run homer and Shane
Victorino and Greg Dobbs each had two-run shots during a 10-run
first inning. They led the Philadelphia Phillies to a 22-1 victory
over the Cincinnati Reds last night. The Phillies tied a club
record for most runs in the first inning. They scored 10 three
other times. The two teams square off for the second game of the
series tonight.

READING (AP) - Phillies Left Fielder Raul Ibanez went 0 for 2
with a strikeout, walk and scored a run in his first rehab start at
Double-A Reading. Ibanez played the first five innings in the
field. He's expected to get more rehab starts to test his injured
groin. Ibanez, who was voted to his first All-Star game, is batting
.312 with 22 homers and 59 RBIs.

HOUSTON (AP) - Mike Hampton pitched seven solid innings, Miguel
Tejada and Geoff Blum drove in two runs apiece and the Houston
Astros beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 last night. Hampton allowed
one run and three hits to improve to 14-3. Garrett Jones doubled in
the seventh and later scored for Pittsburgh's only run. Both teams
play again this evening.

VOORHEES, N.J. (AP) - Chris Pronger says he's willing to discuss
a contract extension with the Flyers that will keep him in
Philadelphia beyond next season. The 34-year-old Pronger, who had
11 goals and 37 assists last season, will earn $6.25 million next
season. He is hopeful a new deal can be reached before the start of
the season.

NEW YORK (AP) - The FBI is investigating whether letters to one
of baseball's founding fathers were among items stolen from the New
York Public Library. Sports memorabilia dealer Hunt Auctions of
Exton, Pa. said yesterday that it was removing the letters from a
July 14 auction in St. Louis because "many questions still remain
unanswered." It is working closely with the FBI.
