WPPA / T-102 SPORTS / Friday

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jayson Werth homered for the fourth straight
game, Chase Utley hit an inside-the-park homer and the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-6 last night. Jamie Moyer
allowed six runs and eight hits in five innings, but Philadelphia's
offense bailed him out again. The Phillies take on Pittsburgh
tonight in Citizens Bank Park.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) - Pedro Martinez says his
agent is negotiating with the Philadelphia Phillies, trying to get
the pitcher back into the major leagues. Martinez says the Phillies
watched him throw a simulated game this week in the Dominican
Republic. The 3-time Cy Young Award winner went 5-6 with a 5.61 ERA
for the New York Mets last year.

BETHLEHEM (AP) - In Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, golfers have
finished the first round at the U.S. Women's Open. South Korea's Ba
Yeon Choi birdied her first three holes, and four of her first
five, on the way to a one-stroke lead. Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa,
2007 champion Cristie Kerr and qualifier Jean Reynolds opened with
2-under 69s yesterday.

BETHLEHEM (AP) - LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens reportedly is
on the way out as leader of the tour after calls for her
resignation by key players. Golf Digest and GolfWeek Magazine
reported on their Web sites yesterday that the embattled
commissioner will be replaced. Sources say Bivens's four-year
tenure could end as soon as next week.

WILKES-BARRE (AP) - Two players from a minor league arena
football team in northeastern Pennsylvania are in trouble with the
law following an altercation outside a nightclub. The
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have suspended Justin Denmar Parrish
and Jason Prince Acquaye from the team following their arrests
early Thursday morning in Wilkes-Barre.
