PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and
Raul Ibanez all hit two-run home runs to lead the Philadelphia
Phillies to a 9-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday. Joe
Blanton had another effective outing and Ryan Howard had three RBIs
to lift the Phillies to their 17th win in 20 games. The Phillies
play Arizona out west tonight.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Pedro Martinez's first minor league
rehab start in preparation for a comeback with the Philadelphia
Phillies was cut short by rain. The right-hander worked
1-and-a-third innings for the Class-A Clearwater team. He hit a
batter and allowed one hit during a 20-pitch first inning that was
delayed by a storm.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say a group from a bachelor party got
into a fight with other patrons at McFaddens Restaurant in the
Citizens Bank Park complex after the Phillies game Saturday night.
It involved up to 30 people and moved into the parking lot. That's
where David Sale of Lansdale was assaulted. He later died from his
injuries.
PHOENIX (AP) - Mark Reynolds and Gerardo Parra each hit two-run
homers and the Arizona Diamondbacks made it easy for right-hander
Max Scherzer in a 9-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates
yesterday. Arizona had eight extra-base hits, including a double
and a triple by shortstop Stephen Drew. The Pirates take on the San
Francisco Giants starting tonight.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - Philadelphia Eagles top draft pick Jeremy
Maclin remains unsigned and was a no-show on the first day of
training camp. Maclin was selected with the 19th overall pick in
the draft. The Eagles traded up two spots to take the receiver out
of Missouri.
