PHOENIX (AP) - Jamie Moyer pitched 6-and-2-thirds shutout
innings, Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer and the Philadelphia
Phillies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 last night. The
Phillies stretched their lead in the National League East to a
season-high seven games over Atlanta and Florida. The Phillies play
the Diamondbacks again tonight in Arizona.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Tim Lincecum pitched a four-hitter and
bounced back from a rough outing with a career-high 15 strikeouts
in the San Francisco Giants' 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh
Pirates last night. The hard-throwing right-hander earned his
fourth complete game this season. The Pirates once again play in
San Francisco tonight against the Giants.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles have opened up
training camp for many of the players in Bethlehem. After
Philadelphia reached its fifth NFC championship game in eight years
last season, the Eagles added several players to boost an offense
that relied on Donovan McNabb and running back Brian Westbrook.All
players are due in training camp by tomorrow.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police have charged two men
with murder and a third suspect is in custody, in the beating death
of a man outside the Phillies' ballpark following a game. Cops have
charged Charles Bowers and Jim Grove with murder for allegedly
beating and kicking David Sale to death. The third suspect, Francis
Kirchner turned himself in yesterday.
